Hong Kong 2007

Next Day Next

Day 14 - August 11, 2007

Today was absolutely fantastic! It was still a little rainy when we got up in the morning and some of us were a little hesitant about going back down into the subways after the experience of the day before, but we pushed all that aside and made our way to theatre. The contrast of the emptiness of the subways today versus yesterday was a bit creepy.

We got to the theatre and quickly got ready to do a dress rehearsal. It was going to be a long day with one dress rehearsal, two performances, and two post-show discussions. The dress rehearsal went off very well and because we had some extra time we did a second photo call. This cast has been complaining that there have been no pictures of them in the marketing materials...now we will have plenty. We took a quick break for lunch which was great. A variety of choices such as curry chicken with rice or noodles, vegetables with rice, salads, and sandwiches. We also had an hour long interview with a reporter from Entertainment Weekly. He told us that the cast of Heroes is coming to Hong Kong next month...how cool is that?!?! I love that show....but I digress.

Our first audience at of the day was 128 people! I was watching the audience come in via a backstage TV monitor. At one point, a song by Andy Lau came on in the preshow music. (We often like to include music from local pop artists when we visit different countries) The crowd became extremely animated. Seems Mr. Lau is a big hit in Hong Kong and will be starting a world tour soon. The show went very well and there many interesting questions from the audience in the post show discussion. Afterwards, we retired to the green room to rest, and well...eat.

The evening show started at 7:30. A great crowd of almost 200 people. There was also a cable TV crew who interviewed us. The show was absolutely flawless. It was performed well, looked beautiful, and sounded terrific. (Kevin, I overheard Paul say that show has not sounded this well in a long time--just so you know) We had a second post show discussion and more great observations were made. It was quite fascinating to watch the communication happen in 4 different languages -- Cantonese, English, American Sign Language, and Cantonese Sign Language. We were on a total high at the end. Of course, afterwards, we went to a local restaurant for a meal with several of our local fans. There were about 40 of us altogether. Dish after dish of exotic Chinese food came out. The brave ones sampled, others didnt fare so well.

It was pretty late when we got back to the hotel to pack our bags. Those departing for home today are to assemble in the lobby at 6:00. Even though I am staying on in China for another week, I had to get up to see them off since I am sending one suitcase home with the group. Yes, that's right...I shopped so much I had to buy another suitcase!

This has been a fantastic trip! This will be the last official journal entry though I may add a few more photos once I am settled again with internet access.
