Australia Tour 2005 Summah DownundahCheck out the photo journal...
Quest’s Wings Company is in rehearsals for its production of Mosaic which is one of the featured productions at the DeafLympics Cultural Festival in Melbourne, Australia. While weaving new actors into the piece, the cast under the direction of Miriam Ganz is also revising each of the show’s scenes. This is one of the great advantages of having an ensemble company. The actors and staff can revisit the work and allow it to grow. The Mosaic ensemble departs December 31 for Melbourne and in addition to performing at the festival will also perform in the Opening Ceremony for the Summer Games.
Benefit Performance for Quest’s Mosaic Dressed in identical black trench coats, five expressionless actors dart randomly across the stage. As they gather in a line down stage, the five characters slowly begin to unbutton their coats, but gripped with fear, they quickly rebutton the coats and sigh with relief in the security of their sameness. So goes the opening of Quest’s powerful and visually rich new visual theatre piece, Mosaic. Mosiac will be featured in Melbourne, Australia this January as part of the DeafLympics Cultural Festival. To support the tour, the company is giving a benefit performance on Friday, December 17. Created by the Quest’s internationally acclaimed Wings Company, Mosaic enjoyed a successful world premier last March in Vienna, Austria before an audience of professional performers from Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, Singapore, Australia, Poland, and Austria participating in the European and International Deaf Theatre Festival. Incorporating mime, movement, gesture, dance, and sign language, Mosaic explores societal pressures to conform and honors the importance of individuality. The Wings Company features a talented ensemble of deaf and hearing performers. In the last year, the company has performed and given workshops in Scotland, the Czech Republic, and Austria. The Czech Republic honored the company with a national award recognizing Wings as a model for inclusiveness and cultural exchange Conceived and directed by the company’s Assistant Director and Dance Captain, Miriam Ganz, Mosaic emerged as all Wings’ pieces do through a collaborative, ensemble approach. The show reflects Quest’s commitment to creating, producing, presenting, and support theatre that emanates from a visual base and feature casts and production staffs that are inclusive. Mosaic will perform Friday, December 17 at 8:00 PM at Gallaudet University’s Andrew Foster Auditorium, 800 Florida Avenue, NE, Washington, DC. Tickets are $25.
