Mosaic

-----------

MosaicDressed in identical black trench coats, five expressionless actors dart randomly across the stage. As they gather in a line down stage, the five characters slowly begin to unbutton their coats, but gripped with fear, they quickly rebutton the coats and sigh with relief in the security of their sameness. So goes the opening of Quest’s powerful and visually rich new visual theatre piece, Mosaic that will see its American premier June 11, 12, and 13 at Gallaudet University’s Elstad Auditorium.

Created by the Quest’s internationally acclaimed Wings Company, Mosaic enjoyed a successful world premier last March in Vienna, Austria before an audience of professional performers from Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, Singapore, Australia, Poland, and Austria participating in the European and International Deaf Theatre Festival. Incorporating mime, movement, gesture, dance, and sign language, Mosaic explores societal pressures to conform and honors the importance of individuality.

Conceived and directed by the company’s Assistant Director and Dance Captain, Miriam Ganz, Mosaic emerged through a collaborative, ensemble approach. The show reflects Quest’s commitment to creating, producing, presenting, and support theatre that emanates from a visual base and feature casts and production staffs that are inclusive. Laurie Anderson is the company’s sign master and Tim McCarty, Quest’s founder serves as Wings’ director.
