Workshops

Services
Quest staff members and affiliate artists are available to conduct workshops, classes, and residencies in a variety of arts and arts education related areas. Staff members are also available for consultation on arts education, accessibility, program planning, and event planning.

Arts Workshops
Poetry in Motion
Using selections from Quest’s production A Celebration of the Senses or school English curriculum, this workshop encourages participants to explore physical interpretations to poetry. The process enhances the participant’s acting skills and their understanding of the poetry.

Creative Sign Language
Depending upon the audience, this workshop investigates the use American Sign Language in theatrical settings. Participants may adapt dialogue from scripts, poetry, or song lyrics. Instructors encourage participants to explore methods of using sign language to communicate and enhance the aesthetics of the written text.

Physical Acting
This workshop encourages the actors to discover ways of employing the entire body as the actor’s primary communication tool. The workshop includes games, exercises, and improvisations to encourage the participants to employ the body as an expressive tool.

Playwriting by Consensus
This workshop uses brainstorming and improvisational techniques to assist participants in developing a play. This workshop is excellent for team building and group dynamics. The Playwriting by Consensus approach is appropriate for all ages and reading levels.

Creative Movement
This workshop is appropriate for participants with little or no experience in dance. Participants learn how to use their bodies as an expressive tool. The workshop includes movement warm-ups, exercises, and improvisations. Normally, the workshop culminates with the participants building a dance phrase.

Mime
Depending upon the experience and age level of the audience, this workshop can serve the uninitiated to the practicing professional level.

Workshops for Educators and Program Directors
Theatre as a Pre-Reading Activity
Designed for teachers, this workshop demonstrates how theatre activities can play an important role in reading preparation for students, especially those students with communication challenges.

Art-in-Education
This workshop presents teachers with various strategies for employing the arts in education. Participants learn of research on arts education, trends in arts education, and resources.

Culture Alive
Designed for classroom teachers, this workshop demonstrates ways that teachers can use the community as a resource to help students understand and appreciate different cultures. Participants learn about Quest’s approach of incorporating cultural experts from the community to serve as guides and resources in developing culturally based units.

Welcoming All
This workshop assists educators and arts administrators gain a greater understanding of strategies for developing programs and projects that are accessible to people with disabilities. The workshop pays particular attention to direct involvement by people with disabilities in all aspects of programming.

Technical Support
Quest staff members provide technical support to schools and arts organizations in the following areas:

  • Grant writing

Event Planning
Quest staff members have extensive experience in planning and coordinating a wide variety of events including:

  • International performance tours
