Week 9

This week students returned from their spring break with a renewed energy toward the creative and production process.  Quest Affiliate Artist, Monique Holt, arrived at WPSD and joined the project as a co-director and facilitator of the process.  Monique taught the students a “ritual” to begin each class and rehearsal.  In the ritual, students stand together in a circle, and sign their own name, before saying “but now, I’m an actor.” At the end of each class and rehearsal, the process is reversed. The ritual helped students to establish a clear focus during rehearsals, and also strengthened the ensemble by creating equality among the members as they work towards a common goal.  Students began to choose which scenes will be part of the final showcase, as well as discussing technical needs including costumes, lighting, props, etc.  This week also welcomed lighting designer Guinevere Lehman and sound designer Nick Crano to the process.
